Excerpts from the biography of the authors of the book "Cooperative Evolution":
"Emeritus Professor Chris Bryant AM was, successively, Professor of Zoology, Dean of Science and Head of the (then) Division of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the Faculty of Science, ANU. He has written more than a hundred papers and articles on his special subject, the evolutionary biology and biochemistry of parasites and has coauthored several books.
In 1988, jointly with Adjunct Professor Mike Gore AM, founding Director of Questacon, the National Science and Technology Centre, he established at ANU the first graduate program in science communication in Australia, probably in the world. In 1994 he retired early to devote himself to the rapidly growing graduate program. Two years later, the appointment of Dr Sue Stocklmayer to the first Australian lectureship in Science Communication provided the stimulus for the establishment of CPAS. Chris somewhat reluctantly became its first Director but after two years engineered his second retirement and happily handed the reins to Sue.
Chris remains an enthusiastic member of CPAS and, although he has reduced his work load, he is still available to graduate students for advice, continues to write on science communication and participates in the activities of the Centre."
"Emeritus Professor Valerie A. Brown is an internationally recognised leader in the field of collective thinking.
Valerie is currently a Visiting Professor at the Fenner School of Environment and Society at the Australian National University, where she has been Director of the Local Sustainability Project since 2002. She was inaugural Professor of Environmental Health at the University of Western Sydney in 1995–2002. In 1984–1992, she was a member of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and, in 1984–1988, was a member of the CSIRO Council.
During the course of her career, Valerie has supervised nearly 100 PhD theses. She specialises in supervising students working on collective responses to complex socio-environmental issues in public health, environmental management, Indigenous and community-based natural resources management, and urban planning."
